The Maya

Recently, there has been a rise in the number of theories about the Mayan calendar and its claimed “final cycle” the 13 baktun. I’ve been tracking this since i first heard it back in 1996. To me, most of these theories are biased and for most they don’t have any science to it. Interestingly enough, as a scientist, I don’t think that the scientific method and scientific truth should be taken as a total and absolute system of truth. I should then determine that truth is taken in the context as an evident, existing, and real. This definition of truth is close to a human version of truth. More on the truth later.  It seems out of base to take the end-of-the-world mayan theories and then talk about the meaning of the truth but my goal is to show, explore, and basically expose the basic components of philosofical thinking. The Mayan theories are a good example of what science is and how science is a human-bound system, it is biased and could not provide absolute truth, notheless it can provide a relative predicatable state for a set of conditions.

So far, much of the “Mayan prophecies” that are out there in books, websites and videos have no scientific roots. Even the ones that cite sources and give “experts” as references. I really don’t want to go too deep into what these theories are but more into the process of human logic and how the scientific process is a beleif system based in philosophy. It is unfortunate that in most of my years of though and study about the “is” phenomenon I’ve been able to realize that the restriction of words and language makes it very hard to communicate my thoughs. The use of mathematical systems and logic is a great one to explain these concepts but still limited to some extent. I have also concluded that it would be impossible for me to state a perfect relation. The perfect relation is such that no more is needed to express. In a cliche, the perfect relation is the perfect physical formula as Physicist might describe it. Is one that can resolve, show, predict, and calculate anything and everything. This formula would be capable of determining every “is” there is. The last phrase represents one of the problems I have when explaining these terms. It would be natural to say this formula would be capable of determining the state (position, composition, location, etc) of any system at any time. I change the previous definition to the new since time is a human bound dimension. But ultimately, time will not be out of the picture, time is such a dimension that to take it out of the conversation would make the convesation too monotonous and left without conveying substance.
